Hibernation Station
As the languor of the post-Halloween season descends, I’ve begun to contemplate the wisdom of bears. After all, why the hell get up at all? Social interaction is dreadfully overrated and hardly seems a sufficient reward for braving the cold and the dark. Sex? Parties? Bah! Groundhogs have the right idea. Curl up and wait it out.
Of course, if you’re going to do some serious groundhogging, you’ll need something to read. Something, perhaps, to help keep that pulse moving a bit so the metabolism doesn’t take too deep a dive. So, I want you to think of this issue of Pulp Asylum as kind of a public service when the torpor of late autumn takes hold, providing the occasional jolt your system needs to keep running smoothly as the year begins to collapse into empty, frigid darkness.
So come on it and pull up a chair. Prop your feet up by the fire. Ignore, if you can, that tapping at the window. I'm pretty sure that's just the wind brushing the old pine tree up against the pane. I would offer you a bite to eat, but I'm really trying to stretch what supplies I have until the spring. Would a cup of tea do? And my companions can tell you some stories while you take the chill off.
Yeah, that tapping must be the pine tree.
Enjoy,
Billy
