The Mad Planet
Murray Leinster
Virginia-born William Fitzgerald Jenkins (1896-1975), better known by his pen-name Murray Leinster, was a prolific and successful writer of pulp fiction. While he worked in a variety of genres, he was best known for incredibly imaginative and detailed science-fiction work. "The Mad Planet" is an prescient example in which he imagines the long-term effect of global warming caused by an excess of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere!
During his lengthy career, Leinster published more that 1,500 shorts stores and articles; he also wrote extensively for radio, television, and the movies. He won a number of awards, most notably a Hugo in 1956 for his novelette Exploration Team.
"The Mad Planet" appeared in the November, 1926, issue of Hugo Gernsback's Amazing Stories. Enjoy!
